Back Pain

Back pain is one of the commonest musculoskeletal problems in our modern society. According to The Australian Bureau of Statistics more than 16% of Australians have back pain at any time. At least 90% of the population will suffer from some type of back pain at some time in their life. Back pain causes pain and disability and can cause excessive down time from work and normal daily activities. At least 14% of people will go on to having persistent back pain.

The causes of back pain are many and varied. Back pain can result from so many of our ordinary activities, like ‘picking up a sock’. Activities such as lifting; bending; bending and twisting; sitting; driving especially heavy vehicles and believe it or not even smoking! Obesity can also be a real problem for back pain. You can even get back pain at the gym or in the garden!

If you have back pain that does not resolve quickly then seek help and advice from our Physiotherapists at BHPC Sometimes changing your posture or work situation can change your back pain. Some treatment and exercise as well as posture advice might be all you need.

Neck Pain

Cervical spine pain, commonly known as neck pain, is a widespread issue that often emerges without an identifiable trigger. This discomfort can strike from simple daily activities, such as waking up in the morning, or rapid head movements. Today, with the pervasive use of digital devices like computers, tablets, and smartphones, we’re observing a rise in the incidence of neck pain.

Neck pain may stem from various factors. It could be work-related, resulting from maintaining an uncomfortable posture for prolonged periods. It could be activity-related, perhaps due to excessive strain or incorrect techniques during sports or exercises. Sometimes, it could be the aftermath of a motor vehicle accident or a sports injury. Surprisingly, neck pain can also occur without any evident reason.

Regardless of the cause, early intervention remains the best approach to manage neck pain. By consulting with our experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapists at BHPC, you can effectively alleviate your pain and expedite your journey back to a normal, pain-free life.

Headaches

Headaches are a common affliction that we all face at one time or another. They can range from simple tension headaches to more complex types. It’s estimated that at least 15% of our population relies on medication to manage headache symptoms, with those aged between 25 and 44 being particularly susceptible.

Headaches can be attributed to a myriad of causes, from injuries and physical exertion to everyday activities and motor vehicle accidents. In some cases, chronic conditions such as arthritis can be a trigger, and occasionally, headaches may occur without any discernible reason.

If you’re grappling with persistent headaches, it’s worth consulting with a physiotherapist who specializes in headache management. Our Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists at BHPC are not only well-trained but also have considerable experience in assessing and treating various types of headaches. Their expertise can provide effective relief and restore your well-being.

Vertigo

Vertigo is often described as “feeling like you’re moving when you’re not” and is a very common problem within the community. The usual causes of Vertigo are benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV), Meneire’s Disease, and acute vertigo. The symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, headaches and stumbling.

The prognosis for Vertigo generally depends on the cause and the diagnosis is most important. To manage vertigo you need to clarify which type of vertigo you have because that is what predicts the best treatment. We have musculoskeletal physiotherapists trained to assess and manage Vertigo.

With the demands of sport at all levels increasing and becoming more competitive it is becoming more important than ever to ensure that athletes are fit to take the field.

Pre-screening is one facet of achieving better performance and preventing injury to avoid athletes spending excessive time on the sideline. It ensures that existing injuries and muscle imbalances can be addressed so that problems do not compound.

At BHPC our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists work together during the screening process in order to identify any existing injuries, muscle imbalances, tightness or muscle weakness; and design an appropriate exercise program that will address these issues for the athlete to ensure they are performing at their peak.
